What does the civil registry office do Every death is reported by the civil registry office of the place of death to the following offices:- Residents' registration office of the place of residence

• Central AHV compensation office
• If the deceased is a German, Italian or Austrian citizen, notification to the registry office of that country.
• In the case of foreign nationals, notification of death to the representation of the home country
• Federal Office for Migration, if one of the parents is an asylum seeker, a provisionally admitted person or a person recognized as a refugee.
• If the deceased has minor children, notification to the guardianship authority

The civil registry office of the last place of residence of the deceased informs the administrative offices within the municipality (residents' registration office, municipal tax office, municipal branch of the Social Insurance Institution of the Canton of Aargau [sva] etc.) and reports the death to the district court president (probate of the will).

Death certificate

Based on the certification in the civil status register, the civil status office of the place of death can issue excerpts (death certificates). These can be reissued at any time (fee CHF 25.00).

How to proceed in the event of a death? If you have never been confronted with a death, you often do not know how much is involved and what needs to be done. The following information should give you an insight into this work and at the same time help you to prepare for this difficult time.

What to do- Redirection of mail to a contact person (relatives, acquaintances, etc.)

• Deregistration of pensions and insurances
• Cancellation of telephone, radio, TV
• Cancellation of the apartment
• Cancellation of various subscriptions (newspaper, magazines, etc.)

Inheritance service / sealing (Notification by civil status district Seeland) Upon receipt of the notification, the municipality's sealing officer will contact the relatives within a maximum of seven days to record a sealing protocol.
This provides information on the assets and liabilities of the deceased person and the surviving spouse.

If available, the following documents should be kept ready for the recording of the protocol:- Bank and post office account statements

• Policies of life, pension or accident insurances

• Details of any existing valuable collections
